School of Nursing [12 Mar 2007|08:37am]

kiky87
I got accepted for the traditional BSN program, as long as I get a 3.0 for my final semester on my pre-req's. The admission contract says that getting below a 3.0 in any course will send my applicaiton back to the admissions counsel. Does anyone know if they automatically revoke your acceptance if this happens? I'm worried about one class holding me up.

Hopkins Shuttle [25 Aug 2006|02:25pm]

What is the cost to ride the shuttle from Penn Station to Homewood? On the visitor's section of the school website it just gives the schedule and doesn't mention cost. Does that mean it's free?

I'm not quite class of '09, I've already finished my undergrad but I'll be starting an accelerated BS in nursing at JHU and then doing my masters there. i was wondering if anyone lives at Crestmont lofts. I just signed up to live there and dont know anyone and was wondering if there was a room in an apartment available. I'm pretty laid back, love cooking and eating, music, chillin out, etc. whats fun to do around baltimore? Dont know the city at all and im not familiar with the east coast at all seeing as how I'm from the west coast, San francisco. anyhoo lemme know what you can tell me about the school and the city and roomies :p

Transferring...hopefully [09 Mar 2006|12:20am]

isis77

Hi, I'm Vida.
I'm applying to transfer to JHU for the fall of '06. Currently I'm a freshman @ The University of Michigan.
I'm an Army brat and my dad just retired from the Army and he and my mom moved back to the D.C. area and
b/c i miss my family muchly, (and b/c JHU seems to have a sweet Near Eastern Program), I'm putting in for a transfer.
Any good info about life at JHU will be greatly appreciated (maybe even some valuable networking too, eh? eh?) Thanks!

Housing stuff? [21 Jul 2005|10:33pm]
shuhzay99
Has anyone received housing info in the mail yet? The mailing schedule they sent us says it was to be mailed around July 15, and I realize they could be later than that date, but I'm really very impatient! So I didn't miss it, did I?

A couple of questions... [12 Jul 2005|08:24pm]

gunlord
I just have two small queries regarding dorm life at JHU...

1: Do any of the dorm rooms have cable? I'm thinking of bringing over a small TV to keep in my room, but unless it has access to cable, it's something of a pointless exercise...

2: Is JHU a big party school? I just got a mailing saying that I had to take an alcohol education course online as a requirement before coming to JHU, so I was wondering, are big parties/orgies/whatever common at Johns Hopkins? Are there a lot of fraternity hazings or anything like that? Please forgive both my ignorance and my intrusiveness, it's just a question that occured to me when I saw that mailing...

What Do You Like To Do For Fun?: Play videogames, write stuff, read

What You Did With Your $10: Buying Edward Gibbons' "Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire." Of course, there's no way in hell I'd be able to get all three volumes of it that cheap, but apparently, whoever read my essay didn't know that ;)

Any Final Thoughts: I just registered and got my JHU email yesterday, and I'm going to call my adviser and see if I can register courses tomorrow. Yes, procrastination is my middle name. Am I totally screwed, or can I still get into a few classes, even if the ones I want to take are full?

Introduction [02 Jul 2005|07:20pm]

andwecandance
Hi, I just joined, and this shall be my first post:

Name: Ashley
AIM Screename: isthatyourjob
Birthday: February 11th
Hometown: San Francisco
Possible Major: English and International Relations double.
Current Clubs/Sports: Well, in high school, Model UN, debate, Peer Educator..
Clubs/Sports You’d Like To Try At Hopkins: Maybe Debate, but I heard it is way too time consuming.
Residence You Plan To Live In: AMRs, because they are the crappiest dorms. And I'm dead serious.
Favorite TV Shows: Law and Order SVU, and I have to admit, Degrassi.
Favorite Movies: Anchorman, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Zoolander, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Saved!, Life Aquatic.
Favorite Books: Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Portrait of a Lady, Me Talk Pretty One Day, Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius, A Fairly Honourable Defeat.
Favorite Musicians/Bands: I suppose the same as many these days. The Killers, The Shins, Deathcab for Cutie, All-Time Quarterback!, okay, everything Ben Gibbard has been involved in. Rilo Kiley (Jenny is my idol), Journey, Minus the Bear, Straylight Run, The Cure, Coheed and Cambria, Belle&Sebastian, Boys Night Out, OneLineDrawing, Patrick Park.
What Do You Like To Do For Fun?: Well, I just got my tonsils out, so right now it is lounging around in my room watching movies on demand. Usually, it involves just hanging out with my friends and normal teenager activities.
What You Did With Your $10: I went to Golden Gate Park and danced with the people who go every Sunday and play the drums and bongos in the park. It was all about challenging yourself to step outside of your box. I really had no idea what to write about.
Any Final Thoughts: Not really, but I hope to talk to some of you guys soon!

Doesn't really matter... [28 Jun 2005|10:28pm]

Hokay. *grin*

Normally at Hopkins, you (hopefully) do your work, take your tests, write your papers, and at the end of the semester, you get a letter grade for each of your classes. The first semester of your freshman year, you do all that, but your grades do not show up on your transcript. Instead, if you've passed the class with a C- or better, then you will receive an S for "Satisfactory." If you get lower than a C-, then you will receive a U for "Unsatisfactory." Those S's and (hopefully no) U's are the only thing that will show up on your transcript for that semester (well, there are other things that may show up but that's only if you incomplete the course or something like that). The school will not uncover your grades for any reason. No graduate school will see it, nothing like that. If, however, you are interested in the grades you received, you can ask your advisor. They will have copies of your actual grades.

Most people are thrilled by the prospect of covered grades, although I did overhear a guy in my dorm complaining to his parents about how the school wouldn't uncover his grades even though he received all A's.

Note: This was in response to a question from sugardreamqueen but I'm posting it for everyone's benefit.

is anyone else completely unsure how to pick classes? i am an art history major and so i know i should take intro to the history of european art and a language class, but after that i'm not really sure. not to mention i'm not even sure if i'm going to major in art history.
if anyone else is majoring in it and could let me know how theyre doing,
that'd be great.

plus, since the first semester is pass/fail shouldn't i take really difficult classes like calculus and chemistry in order to get them out of the way?

i really don'tknow how to approach this whole thing at all.

Does anyone know if we are supposed to take the math/language placement exams prior to registration, or if we are supposed to register first and then correct it at orientation? I'm confused because some tests are supposed to be taken AT orientation...

Registration [20 Jun 2005|01:39pm]

shiraz_wine
[ mood | thirsty ]

sugardreamqueen asked about registering for classes.

You will get a letter in the mail telling you how to sign up for classes and exactly which day registration starts. Registration will start at 7 am. MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE AWAKE. If you want classes that aren't the typical introductory classes with at least 250 seats or want your ideal schedule, then make absolutely sure you are awake by 7 am and hope that your internet connection is fast. Classes fill up very quickly. In some cases, you may get the classes you want, but you may not get them at the times you wanted.

Hopefully, what happened last year won't happen again this year. Last year, the registration system went down, so nobody was able to sign up for the classes. I freaked out for a good half hour before I decided to sleep for an hour and try again. The next time I tried, everything was working fine and I got all my classes, in the times I wanted.
